ABOUT NOTRE DAME SCHOOL, GUMLA


Notre Dame School, Gumla is a Catholic Institution managed by the Gumla Notre Dame Sisters’ Society. Therefore, all the decisions of the Governing Body find their source in the Christian Philosophy.

Tracing the journey of Notre Dame School in Gumla  from  the year of  its inception on 1st July,  1998 with L.K.G.,and U.K.G. with a total enrolment of 83 and the two founding teachers -Sister Daya and Sister Sarita, it was indeed from a modest and a very humble beginnings it has marched to a full pledged  school today.   It encompasses the Preprimary, the Primary, the Secondary and the Senior Secondary School.  The increase  in number of students, upgrading of classes,  growth in infrastructure and facilities were steady and consistent. History has shown that the Vision and Principles of Notre Dame Education is laid on solid foundation and bear much fruit.

The school is situated in a tribal populated area of Gumla in the State of Jharkhand. It is open to the children of all communities with a special mission for the education of tribal children especially the girl children as well as the economically and socially weaker sections of the society.

The aim of Notre Dame Education is the formation of character and personality of the young student.  By the end of a student’s education in Notre Dame, each student will have developed those values that not only enriches his / her personally but which will help in bringing about a positive change in the present set-up of the society where there will be equality and justice for all. “Lead Me from Darkness to Light” is the ardent prayer of a Notre Dame student.

An over-all –view of the history shows that during the past 21 years, the school has taken many giant strides with the collaborative efforts of its stakeholders. Presently the school  is known as one of the best schools in the district of Gumla. It is satisfying to know that many of our former students from this area are well placed in society now and are contributing to the building up of our nation. As the school marches ahead to new heights of excellence, we keep our focus on the motto of the school “Glory to God and Service to All”.

The list of lineage of Principal’s who played great role in the progress of the school is Sister  Mary Pratima, Sister Mary Gracy, Sister Mary Ranjita, Sister Mary Tessy and presently Sister Mary Savita.  With a team of  committed   members in Administration,  dedicated  and diligent group of  its faculty , supportive Government Administration, co-operating  and encouraging Parents’ Community , the school  continues to take its stride to  greater heights.

 Notre Dame School, Gumla strives to keep alive the legacy of Saint Julie Billiart- a deep faith in the goodness of God and a burning desire to work for the transformation of society.
